Evaluation of attitude and awareness of dental practitioners regarding artificial intelligence: A cross-sectional study

Abstract
Background: Artificial intelligence (AI) is a recently developed technology with its wings in dentistry. It is promptly attracting attention around the world among researchers of different professions. The key role of AI is that it mimics human cognitive functions and has globally captured the minds of scientists. Dentists can use AI to guarantee better healthcare results, quality therapy, and accuracy. Objectives: The purpose of our study is to evaluate the attitude and awareness of dental practitioners regarding AI. Methods: Our study included 441 dental practitioners residing in Bhopal city using an authentic self-evaluated questionnaire. Results: Out of 441 practitioners, 317 reported back. 57.4% of practitioners had basic knowledge regarding AI, and 36.9% of them agreed that AI would lead to major advances in dentistry. The most popular source of information regarding AI was social media (21.1%). A total of 132 dental practitioners agreed that AI should be a part of the dental curriculum. Conclusion: Dental practitioners of Bhopal city have average awareness levels and considerate attitudes regarding AI in dentistry. However, the use of AI in dental practice is limited.
