Abstract
Traditionally, records and archives were primarily paper-based and the infrastructures and ecosystems in the paper world were easily determined. Trust records were guaranteed as they were kept in physical filing cabinets where the archivist and records manager had total control. Today in the digital world, the formats for records and archives are no longer physical and are constantly changing resulting in their loss and inaccessibility, thereby bringing distrust and impeding decision making. The purpose of this chapter is to explore AI in records and archives management in an era where computers are becoming knowledge processing machines. As the world moves into the fifth Industrial Revolution (5IR), it is imperative for records and archives organizations to address the surrounding issues of trust, policies and ethical considerations in records and archives management so that the records remain effective sources for decision making.
