Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming medical oncology by enhancing diagnostic accuracy, treatment planning, and patient management. However, a notable trust gap exists among clinicians and patients regarding AI’s reliability and effectiveness. This article explores the multifaceted reasons behind the skepticism surrounding AI technologies in health care, emphasizing the importance of trust as a prerequisite for successful integration into clinical practice. Empirical evidence reveals that while many patients recognize the potential benefits of AI, significant concerns persist about data privacy, algorithmic bias, and the lack of transparency in AI decision-making processes. Furthermore, physicians express hesitations driven by doubts about the clinical validation and interpretability of AI systems. To build confidence in AI applications, the article advocates for the implementation of robust data governance frameworks, enhanced transparency, and active involvement of stakeholders in AI development. By promoting collaborative decision-making models that respect the expertise of both clinicians and patients, this study underscores the necessity of addressing ethical implications and ensuring equitable access to AI-driven innovations. Bridging the trust gap is imperative for harnessing AI’s capabilities in oncology, thereby advancing patient-centered care and improving clinical outcomes. By fostering a culture of transparency and accountability within healthcare organizations, this approach can lead to more informed and positive perceptions of AI technologies.
