A Comparative Study of Artificial Intelligence-Enabled Business Foreign Language Teaching in Universities: Taking ChatGPT-4o, Claude3.5 Sonnet and ERNIE 4.0 Turbo as Examples

Abstract

With the intensive release and continuous updating of Chinese and foreign artificial intelligence large language models in the past two years, scholars have been studying them more and more in foreign language education. This paper takes ChatGPT-4o released by Open AI, Claude3.5 Sonnet released by Anthropic and ERNIE 4.0 Turbo released by Baidu as examples to explore the comparison of their empowerment for business foreign language teaching in universities. In the analysis process, the comparison method is used to draw conclusions from four aspects: language proficiency, knowledge breadth and accuracy, task processing ability, user experience and usability through four aspects: pre-course preparation, essay tutoring, test paper proposing and interdisciplinary learning. As a result of the synthesis, Claude 3.5 Sonnet is the most prominent in language proficiency, task processing ability and user experience, ChatGPT4o is the second, and lastly ERNIE 4.0 Turbo, while ChatGPT-4o is the strongest in terms of knowledge breadth and accuracy. Finally, summarize its implications for teachers' teaching and students' learning.
