Abstract
Abstract The use of technology in medicine, especially in ophthalmology, is undergoing advances which, combined with artificial intelligence, are promising in the detection and diagnosis of eye diseases. Ophthalmology uses many images to offer accurate diagnoses, and artificial intelligence seems to provide a more assertive analysis due to its ability to process large data amounts and interpret medical images. These technological advances improve the chances of successful treatment and reduce diagnosis time, enabling more effective and agile care, with an impact on quality of life. However, such integration between technology and ophthalmology also raises concerns, and questions such as data privacy, equity of access to technological advances and the role of the physician in decision-making must be considered. In view of this, this literature review highlighted ethical challenges and future prospects for the use of artificial intelligence in ophthalmology.
