Abstract

The advent of digital cities has revolutionized the way we perceive urban living, transforming it into a dynamic, interactive, and sustainable environment. As we continue to explore the potential of digital cities, we introduce the concept of "Urbiverse"-a metaverse environment specifically designed for digital cities. This chapter focuses on the intricacies of the Urbiverse, its potential impact, and the transformative power it holds for the future of urban living. The Urbiverse is a virtual reality space where citizens of digital cities can interact, share ideas, and utilize or deliver services. It is an immersive, interactive, and interconnected digital environment that transcends the physical limitations of traditional cities. The Urbiverse is not just a digital replica of our physical cities but a reimagined urban environment that leverages the power of advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and Augmented Reality (AR)/ Virtual Reality (VR) to create a more efficient, sustainable, and inclusive urban ecosystem. This chapter explores the Urbiverse's potential to enhance the quality of urban life, improve social interactions, and contribute to environmental and economic sustainability. The Urbiverse can improve the quality of life by providing seamless access to urban services, fostering social interactions, and creating a sense of community among its inhabitants. It can also contribute to environmental sustainability by optimizing resource use, reducing carbon footprint, and facilitating the implementation of green initiatives. Economically, the Urbiverse can stimulate growth by creating new business opportunities, promoting innovation, and improving the efficiency of urban services. The Urbiverse also holds the potential to revolutionize urban services. From healthcare and education to transportation and waste management, the Urbiverse can transform the delivery of urban services, making them more accessible, efficient, and personalized. For instance, digital health services in the Urbiverse could provide personalized healthcare solutions, while digital education services could offer immersive and interactive learning experiences. Similarly, digital transportation services could optimize mobility, and digital waste management could enhance sustainability. The chapter concludes with the discussion on the challenges of implementing the Ubiverse concept.
