Abstract
This article is a critical review of relevant literature that explores how the use of technologies, particularly those powered by artificial intelligence, are impacting data-driven decision making. Artificial intelligence can provide powerful opportunities for the teaching and learning process. However, it also poses significant risks. The article discusses how the technologies that underlie artificial intelligence can create problematic data use, especially in terms of data ethics. The article raises the concerns with the intention of bringing awareness to educators about both the benefits and risks of the technologies. Thus, the article uniquely contributes to practice and research by providing the integration of a theoretical framework for data ethics to emerging technologies in practice.
