Abstract
Service organisations including academic libraries seek to be relevant by providing improved services in the ever-changing world of technology. The study investigated librarians’ awareness of the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the provision of library services in selected academic libraries in Lesotho. This qualitative multiple case study used interviews to collect data from the librarians in selected academic libraries in Lesotho. Purposive sampling was used to select the study participants. Data analysis was done manually and presented thematically guided by research objectives. The study found that academic libraries are hindered by a lack of skills and capacity, funding constraints, fear of job losses, and an inadequate networked environment. It is recommended, among others, that more funding be allocated to academic libraries to enable the procurement of AI technologies to improve the provision of information services.
