Abstract

Abstract
Artificial intelligence-based technologies promise to transform nursing and, specifically, to evolve nursing workforce management. All nurse leaders will need to develop essential competencies to work with artificial intelligence. This will ensure their voices are central to all nursing-related decision-making and implementation. Infrastructure is necessary to effectively capture and utilize nurse-level data. A unique nurse identifier (UNI) facilitates more sophisticated tracking of nurse competencies, alignment with clinical workflows, and measuring impacts on patient care. This article is a call to action for clinical nurse leaders to build the data systems necessary to leverage the potential of AI-based tools in staffing.
