Abstract
In previous research, we observed that technological development, first with the Internet and then with Artificial Intelligence (AI), has enabled substantial advances in the research process, but also significant risks affecting research authorship and research ethics. Universities face major challenges: this new reality cannot be ignored; technological advancement can contribute to faculty development and student training, enabling improved research. Faculty training is essential to transmit this knowledge to students. It also presents a problem of enormous magnitude, as the AI system based on ChatGPT allows researchers to create works whose authorship is attributed to the machine. The ethical limits posed by this new technology, the problems of plagiarism, and the difficulty in detecting it, present the dilemma of either accepting this new reality, introducing limits on its use, or prohibiting it altogether. This study analyzes 23 articles that aim to confirm previous findings on the potential, limitations, and risks of AI in scientific research. The results indicate that the sample supports the use of AI with limitations. It also shows evidence of the potential applications of AI in scientific research, while acknowledging that limitations and risks remain.
