Abstract
This chapter argues for an expansive vision of artificial intelligence (AI) in education, moving beyond the current focus on personalization to a model of AI-augmented human flourishing. While personalization offers benefits, it often overlooks AI’s potential to foster holistic student development, which includes physical, psychological, social, and spiritual well-being. Using a conceptual analysis methodology, we deconstruct flourishing and analyze how AI can strategically support its various dimensions, such as emotional intelligence, creativity, and critical thinking. The chapter discusses ethical considerations, like data privacy and algorithmic bias, advocating for a human-centered AI design that prioritizes fairness and a values-driven integration. We conclude by proposing a comprehensive framework with practical recommendations for educators, policymakers, and developers to harness AI’s full potential for a more equitable and enriching educational future.
