Abstract
The emerging landscape of integrating technology in higher education has provided both benefits and challenges. Chatbot, a popular technology, is used in transforming the teaching and learning pedagogies in higher education. This computer program can communicate with students and teachers using text or voice. Chatbots in higher education can provide personalized learning experiences, do certain tasks, or just provide any assistance 24/7. Similarly, disadvantages are also present. Despite the expanding research landscape, research in this area remains limited in developing countries and the long term effect on the use of chatbots in higher education must also be checked especially in the part of data collection. This research endeavor aimed at identifying the research publication trends in the use of chatbots in higher education using a type of methodology called Bibliometric Analysis. It utilized the Scopus database in investigating the 4329 research papers and performed a SWOT analysis on the top 10 highly cited papers. This study identified an increasing publication trajectory within the last 2 decades (from 2006 to 2025). It also presented which papers have the most citations, the countries where the research papers were produced, the common keywords, and the relationships of the cited references, authors, and keywords. The tools used in this research were Microsoft Excel, RStudio, and Biblioshiny.
