Abstract

Objectives: the main objective of this study was to compare the completeness of medical data collection using the digital tool SMURt@b versus the former paper format during the pre-hospital management of chest pain. Patients studied: the patients included in this study were adults managed in a pre-hospital setting for chest pain by the SMUR teams of Montpellier, Ganges, Lunel, and Cœur d’Hérault. Methods: this was a retrospective, single-center study in which a total of 780 patients were analyzed, 390 in each group. The two data collection methods were compared using 16 predefined criteria. These criteria were combined into a completeness score analyzed with a Mann-Whitney test, and then each criterion was studied individually using a Chi-squared test. Main results: the average number of criteria documented in the digital records was 10.17 (± 2.53), compared to 9.13 (± 2.09) in the paper records (p < 0.001). Improved data collection was observed with the SMURt@b software for the following criteria: persistence of pain (completeness score of 68%), pain location (67%), type of pain (71%), suspected diagnosis (59%), usual treatments (77%), evolution of pain during care (38%), and clinical examination (71%). Conclusion: in this study, the digital format appeared to improve the collection of data related to chest pain in the pre-hospital setting.
