Abstract

Abstract This is a big improvement in diagnosis, personalised medicine and telemedicine, thanks to the use of artificial intelligence (AI). It’s also led to better results for patients and better operations. However, these technologies also bring about a lot of new chances and risks for intellectual property (IP) rights. The goal of this chapter is to show why IP is important for safeguarding AI-based medical progress. To do this, it looks at the business of digital healthcare and various types of IP, including trade secrets, brands, patents and copyrights. It talks about things like patent eligibility, data ownership, privacy issues and global IP enforcement as it looks into how hard it is to protect and maintain IP rights for AI systems. Using AI to handle IP and embracing collaborative innovation models are some of the things that this chapter talks about. It also talks about how to treat IP in healthcare that is powered by AI in a smart way. Medical companies can protect ideas, lower risks and grow in a way that lasts if they link their IP strategy to their business goals and keep an eye on what’s coming up. There are some ideas at the end of the chapter to help people in the field, such as healthcare organisations, lawmakers and IP experts, get around the problems and make the most of the opportunities.
