Abstract
Abstract The applications of data analytics are becoming more acknowledged in healthcare management to transform patient care, improve organisational effectiveness as well as influence policy developments. Healthcare providers can tap into this potential through data analytics since the data collected can be analysed effectively for proper decision-making on the proactive management of health. Implementing data-driven technology can play a significant role in stimulating care during all phases of the patient journey in the private sector. It helps in real-time monitoring and identification of potential epidemics, frequent readmissions and deterioration of chronic diseases. In this chapter, the authors discuss the applications and the impact of data analytics in the decision-making processes in UK healthcare industry. This chapter focuses on the importance of data analytics applications in healthcare management. It also highlights the pivotal role of data analytics in improving decision-making, planning and strategic control mechanisms in the healthcare management. The chapter sheds lights on key challenges associated with big data analytics and articulates a call for multifaceted actions to enable the full exploitation and integration of data analytics in the UK healthcare system. Results of this chapter have theoretical and managerial implications for decision-makers, policymakers’ scholars, educators and other stakeholders.
