Abstract
Abstract This chapter examines how artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming leadership development practices. The chapter defines leadership development as enhancing individual and collective capacity for effective leadership roles through assessment, coaching, mentoring, networking, job assignments, action learning, classroom training, and simulations. AI technologies, including machine learning (ML), natural language processing (NLP), virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and conversational AI, are augmenting or disrupting these traditional practices. Applications span talent identification through predictive analytics, automated skill evaluation, personality assessment, AI-powered assessment centers, virtual coaching, scenario-based learning, personalized development plans, adaptive learning content, real-time feedback, and continuous performance monitoring. The chapter addresses critical considerations for Industrial-Organizational (I-O) psychologists, including algorithmic bias, transparency, data privacy, measurement validity, and ethical implications. Future prospects suggest AI may accelerate leadership development processes while raising important questions about human-centered leadership practices.
