Abstract
Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing design education, evolving from a mere digital tool to an active creative partner and, in some cases, even a competitor to human ingenuity. AI is not only enhancing productivity but also reshaping the way students approach design thinking and conceptual development. This transformation raises critical questions about the balance between AI assistance and the cultivation of human creativity. Furthermore, ethical considerations surrounding authorship, originality, and dependency on AI-generated content cannot be overlooked. The increasing integration of AI challenges traditional learning models, prompting educators to rethink pedagogical strategies. While AI-driven automation streamlines creative processes, it also necessitates a structured framework to ensure responsible usage in academic settings. This study employs a mixed-method approach, combining qualitative interviews with design educators and a quantitative analysis of AI-generated outputs to assess the evolving role of generative AI in design education. The findings suggest that while AI expands creative possibilities, it also necessitates a reevaluation of foundational design skills to prevent over-dependence on machine-generated solutions. As AI continues to reshape the educational landscape, this paper argues for a balanced integration strategy, ensuring that generative AI complements rather than undermines the essence of human creativity.
